My last trip to Mathura was almost a decade ago, before Nammn’s birth. We could not make time to visit Mathura or Vrindavan again. Last month when my friend VV suggested visiting Vrindavan to spend the weekend with family; I liked the idea instantly. Spending time with family and friends is always fun, given the kind of work schedule we have. Vrindavan is three and a half hour drive from Delhi and can be reached via expressway or NH-24.
We chose to travel via the expressway and it was a smooth drive until we reached Mathura. Vrindavan being an old city, one needs to be careful, as the traffic can be bad too. The name ‘Vrindavan’ is derived from ‘Vrinda’, another name for the sacred tulsi (basil) plant. It is said that the entire place was a tulsi grove at one time. According to another tradition, it was named after Vrinda Devi, one of Krishna’s consorts.
We reached Shri Radha Brij Vasundhara Resort and Spa, located near the temple of Gorvanrdhan Ji. The resort is stunning and divided into different sections. The suites are built in a circle with a park at the center.
Vrindavan being a holy city, dozens of temple dot the area. We enjoyed our circumambulation (Parikrama) of 21 Km at night on an e-rickshaw and stopping at various temples including Radha Kund. While we preferred the e-rickshaw; worshippers walk barefooted and cover the distance in 4-6 hours. Such is the holiness of this place that you get immersed in the divinity, just by hearing the Lord’s name.
Back in the resort, we took the spa. The Spa has basic amenities; however, the masseurs are well trained. Also, the packages on spa are very economical and you would enjoy a simple message more than once – as it’s also pocket-friendly and you definitely feel stress-free and fresh.
Shri Radha Brij Vasundhara Resort and Spa has been a great find! If you wish to enjoy a religious vacation and dwell into the harmonious tinkling of bells when you step out of the resort, staying at this place is ideal as well as economical. If you aren’t a religious person; however want a quick getaway or spend a week – this place is worth staying with its basic amenities. The rooms are large and clean and give you the comfort of luxury. The entire resort is covered with lush green and the mornings are fresh and beautiful.
You feel relaxed by strolling around the cottages – you will feel closer to nature. This place has Billiards and Table tennis room too. You can also enjoy facilities of Gym. The swimming pool was under renovation at the time of our visit. You will also love the way these cottages are designed. Bedroom along with living room with a glass wall lets you enjoy the greenery. Else, you can walk out and enjoy a cuppa sitting outside your cottage. More than religious, I felt healthier and peaceful time with my family. My son enjoyed exploring the huge resort, while I got plentiful time romancing with my wife. I also felt that this place is excellent for writers who will enjoy the serenity of this place. Food is just average and yet I loved my stay
Forget everything, this place is worth staying if you ever want to break free of your routine life and rediscover yourself in the quiet and peaceful surroundings.
I must say it was a well-spent religious weekend with friends and family and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely love to come back again.
While returning back we chose the national highway and it gave me an idea for another story that I will share soon.
