Finally, Delhi has got a fine Thai place which is as close as it can get to the food of Thailand without burning a hole in your pocket. Simple, no fuss and delicious food is the USP of Thai House by Kylin that opened just 3 weeks back at N Block Market, GK1. Chef Nikkhil has worked in Thailand before and is the man behind food at Thai house. This gets supported by Saurabh of Kylin, a well-known pan Asian brand.
Apart from Chinese and Italian, the thai cuisine is fast picking up in our country. Though we have not been able to graduate beyond red, green and yellow curry, yet I think slowly we are moving and exploring the cuisine of Thailand, which in my opinion offers great flavors and tastes excellent.
Whenver we talk about thai cuisine in India, it’s incomplete if we don’t talk about Thai Pavilion and Chef Ananda Soloman. He is someone who brought thai cuisine in India and Thai Pavilion is considered as the best thai restaurant. In Delhi Neung Roi is considered as best thai place but it’s in five star category and not everyone can afford it.
In standalone, thai cuisine never moved beyond curries and that too in a very indian avtar. Thai House has come at the right time where people in delhi are ready to experiment with food and look beyond thai curry.
Chef Nikkhil has earlier worked in India and couple of years back, was associated with Circa 1193 which is a super classy destination restaurant in Mehrauli. He then, moved to Thailand and worked at various places, explored thai cuisine from street to fine dine to understand it’s nuances. He came back and joined hands with Sourabh Kanjiro who is known for the amazing pan Asian food at Kylin.
While taking to Saurabh and Nikkhil, Saurabh shared that people are now exposed to various kinds of cuisine and are well-travelled. People now look forward to eating in a restaurant that serves speciality food. Hence, it was the best choice of venturing out and open a speciality Asian place which also is his forte.
At thai house, you will find appetisers, soup and wok tossed along with some excellent curry. Let me tell you these are not the curries that you will get in any restaurant. Like jungle curry or kaeng pa is unusual thai curry which doesn’t have coconut but taste divine and you shouldn’t miss trying this out.
Gai har bai dtoi or chicken wrapped in pandan leaves – chicken was moist, cooked well, tasted delicious! Chicken alone doesn’t have any flavour and hence it isn’t easy to cook unless the amalgamation of spices bring magic in the dish!
You shouldn’t miss tom kha talay, a sea food soup which has coconut milk as its base. Don’t forget to finish your meal with tub tim grob (rubies in coconut).
Thai House certainly is the most welcome addition in city’s dinning space and it’s going to give tough competition to other places that serve Thai food.
