Clear blue sky, a glass of wine, bite sized flavour bombs and a soothing atmosphere is all it takes for a great evening to get going.  While going out on a romantic date you don’t need to think twice and just head straight away to Farzi Cafe at Connaught Place as its new classy terrace has the perfect setting to just relax and go with the flow.

Farzi Cafe started by Zorawar Kalra is THE place I would recommend to a foreigner looking to have his first meal in Delhi. I have never been a great fan of Indian classics being given a modern twist, but this place is something else.  Zorawar has achieved new limits and set such high standards which most restaurateurs can just dream of. The space at the terrace is effectively utilized, but won’t disturb the privacy. The overall decor is a delight to the senses. High wooden tables and chairs are interesting and a small water fountain placed in the middle makes the ambience soothing. There’s indoor seating area as well, decorated beautifully, with pretty lamps and attractive glossy interiors.

Just like their kickass innovative kitchen, their bar is really creative too and churns out some great cocktails. The two cocktails that I tried, Gazpacho Tail and Kanji redefined the concept of cocktails for me. Gazpacho is a Spanish cold soup and this cocktail brought this concept into the bar where gin is mixed with iceberg lettuce juice and nutmeg liquor, then served in a soup bowl. In the latter one, vodka is given a desi twist using Kanji, a traditional Punjabi drink made during winters, using carrots, mustard powder and red chilli powder. I loved the concept and the innovation. The food at Farzi needs no introduction and I’m excited to know that they have a new menu. Each of the item on their menu is carefully crafted and they all are the Chef’s take on the simplest of the food that we eat at home or at a restaurant. I simply loved the Upma and Curried Mozarella bites, Dal Chawal Arancini, Grainy Mustard Fish Tikka, Delhi Belly Tikka (Pork) and Black Pepper and Golden Garlic Prawns. Everything was so good that it was hard to pick a favourite.

The terrace is perfect for throwing big parties as indoor and outdoor areas together are quite spacious. Only drawback I found as there is no view of Connaught Place, but who cares as long as you feel relaxed with good liquor flowing and your tastebuds getting treated so well.
