Even though I arrived at 3.45 am at Sayaji Kolhapur, I was greeted warmly by the smiling receptionist. During my check in, I glanced to see the tag line of Sayaji Hotels which is Yours. Truly. And the staff at Sayaji Kolhapur truly epitomize it. Owned by DYP Hospitality and managed by Sayaji, the hotel is grand in every way. And they have a no tip policy.
Food is the other strong point. While Blue Lotus is the multi cuisine restaurant offering both a la carte and buffet with a bar, my personal favourite is Barbeque Nation. It takes open fire cooking to new heights literally as it is located on the 9th floor. I enjoyed my interactive meal as I grilled my starters on the grill placed on my table. The cool evening breeze, the city’s twinkling lights below and the sumptuous starters, salad, soup, main course, live counter and desserts were a treat for all my senses.
Puneet Mahajan, General Manager, Sayaji Kolhapur adds, “Moon Tree Café is a 24 hours coffee shop and the first and only one of its kind in Kolhapur. Snacking on chicken peri peri, sun dried tomato grilled prawns, mutton kheema nazza and vegetarian Malabar paratha wrap while sipping blood on the dance floor mocktail or our popular green lemonade as you sit in a Mediterranean kind of ambience is a memorable experience. We also offer beer and wine on request.” I couldn’t get enough of the delicious goey chocolate cake and the double chocolate hazelnut mousse at the cafe. Every month Sayaji Kolhapur organizes mouth watering food festivals.
I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say that the night life of Kolhapur revolves around Edge which is the lounge bar that has a capacity of 300 people. And yes, Edge has a happening crowd which enjoys their pulsating music, spirits and chill out time. I liked that it gives a 360 degree view of the city.
The 120 roomed Sayaji also boasts of the highest number of rooms in Kolhapur. Rooms are categorized as Executive and Grand. There are Grand suites and a magnificent Presidential Suite. I stayed in a Grand room which had all the state of the art amenities, carpeted flooring, a cosy double bed, sitting area, writing desk and toiletries by VLCC. Since my room was on the 8th floor I got a panoramic view of the city. A personalized service which gets my thumbs up is the reception manager and butler dedicated to each floor. So every floor has its own reception manager and butler to customize your needs.
Sayaji also has the largest banqueting facility in Kolhapur. Mahajan says, “Our ballroom Megh Malhar can seat 400 people theatre style, while the lawns can have a floating crowd of 1500 people which is why our hotel is a hot destination wedding venue. 3 board rooms are ideal for elite meetings and conferences.” The gym and pool are opening shortly.
The hotel arranges pick up and drop from Belgaum and Pune airports as well as Kolhapur railway station. The travel desk arranged my sightseeing which included darshan at the Mahalakshmi Temple, Jotiba Temple, Bhavani Temple inside Bhavani Mandap, Rankala Lake, New Palace museum, Town Hall museum and Panhala.
