NDTV Good Times and Glenfiddich together bring us a show that captures the essence of country life in Scotland and how some of the best Single Malts in the world are produced. In this 3 episode series called ‘The Mavericks’, the suave and ingratiating Rahul Khanna takes us to a journey that enlightens every whisky lover esp. a person with as much inquisitiveness and curiosity as me.
Glenfiddich is one of the most popular Single Malts owned by William Grant & Sons Ltd. Glen means valley and most of the Scotch Whiskys are named after the valleys in which they are produced. The company produces some of the world’s leading brands of Scotch whisky apart from the most popular single malt Glenfiddich, including the handcrafted range of The Balvenie single malts, popular blended Scotch Grant’s, as well as selected other spirits, including Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry and, most recently, Tullamore Dew Irish Whisky.
Glenfiddich means the valley of the Deer. The word ‘Maverick’ means unorthodox, unconventional and William Grant and his family are considered as Maverick Whisky makers of Dufftown. They love to narrate their experiences and tell their story to the entire world.
In the recent event held at Westin Gurgaon, Glenfiddich introduced us to the VR experience, called “Journey into the Mind of the Malt Master”, a 360 degree view of the Glenfiddich distillery, highlighting the mastery and craft of single malt whisky production along with splendid views of the countryside where the distillery is located.
I thought of writing this article after watching the first episode that was aired on 3rd Sept. 2016. I liked the fact that it is not just another travel show, but enriches us by showcasing the story of evolution of Malts and how they have caught world’s fancy including India.
