You must have heard this very often – “I am director’s actor”, often used this line by lot of our Bollywood star.

You must be wondering why I am using this line here, what is the relevance?

The intent behind using this line was to tell that at times we let ourselves be guided by experts that enables us to perform certain jobs.  Whatever I know about Japanese cuisine, the credit goes to, one of my favourite chef Vikram Khatri, no introduction needed. Perhaps one of the best chef I have ever come across who is so passionate about Japanese cuisine. His passion, dedication, inquisitiveness are some of the qualities that new generation chefs should learn from him.

Whatever little I know now about Japanese cuisine, the credit goes to him and my dear friend Umesh Kapoor; both being champion Japanese chefs.

Maneesh Srivastva, food , travel and lifestyle blogger, photographer, guppy by ai, new summer menu, chef vikram Khatri Consistency and service is the key to success for any good restaurant and guppy truly demonstrates it all the way – Serving one of the best Japanese food in town with same consistency over the years. My recent experience at one of the standalone Japanese restaurant wasn’t good – average food, arrogant staff, and careless service.

It was time to celebrate hanami festival and the new spring summer menu at Guppy. I was as usual excited and was looking forward to it. Guppy had also planned a masterclass where we learnt how to make sushi and it was followed by lunch.

After the masterclass where we learnt the art of making sushi, which otherwise I believe is almost impossible for someone like me to roll. Chef Vikram taught us in such a simple manner that I actually manage to make 3 sets of rolls. Nothing that can be compared to what the Chef churns out, however it was a great learning!

Maneesh Srivastva, food , travel and lifestyle blogger, photographer, guppy by ai, new summer menu, chef vikram Khatri The summer menu has lot of options for vegans as well. Chef Vikram said that he focussed a lot on vegetarian dishes this time, based on customer’s demand. I loved the cold soup corn and avocado. The sweetness of corn was perfectly balanced by wasabi.

All the salad that we tried were vegan and very refreshing. 3 melon salad with plum dressing was the star salad for me. The sweetness of melons were cut by the tanginess of plum dressing. Roasted pumpkin salad was another winner for me – simple and delectable.

I am huge fan of Chef vikram’s sushi and this time the alphonso mango sushi was superb! The colourful hanami special sushi had tuna, salmon, crab, yellowtail and cucumber – Highly presentable, tempting and delicious too. Nothing can go wrong with sushis at Guppy. They are made in small batches and are always fresh.

The cold noodles too is absolutely delicious and shouldn’t be. Cold Hiyashi Tantanmen –   Home-made Ramen noodles, served with chilled sesame flavoured pork broth and spicy ground pork meat with veggies, – A complete meal and you can’t stop yourself with few servings of it.

Hiyashi Somen – chilled thin noodles, with crab sticks, prawn and seaweed, served with ginger flavoured dashi broth and Hiyashi Tanuki Cha Soba – vegan dish that beats heat. It is served chilled, fresh and with lot of veggies.

We finished our meal with Mango and coconut ice-cream – Fresh Alphonso mango with liquorice, sanshō and pepper dust – Chilled, sweet and delicious and a perfect way to finish your memorable meal at Guppy.

Well, to sum it up, if you love Japanese food then you shouldn’t look beyond Guppy.
