Sorrento – The Italian way

After our drinks at Grappa, we decided to order food from Sorrento. I loved the ambience and the décor of the restaurant – very modern yet contemporary, big and open kitchen. They make their own pastes every day so you can expect some excellent fresh pasta here.

Sorrento is one of the most popular tourist destinations in south of Italy overlooking the bay of Naples. It is known for their fresh produce and fresh ingredients. Chef Luigi Ferarro is from the Calabria region and is the man behind the scenes (read food) and his freshly made pastas will leave you craving for more.

What do you expect from an Italian restaurant in a five star hotel?  – Live pasta station, live pizza, an extensive wine list (they have an impressive wine cellar) and last but not the least an open kitchen. Sorrento has it all. A cool, casual dine place where pizzas and pastas are made with fresh ingredients and no compromise made on the quality of the ingredients, that results in authentic Italian dining experience. Oh! And not to forget their bakery team that churn out great baking stuff as well.

Shangri-La is for sure now has the most outstanding F&B amongst the five stars in Delhi and for me the credit goes to Executive Chef Neeraj Tyagi and his entire team.

I wanted to try pizza and hence I opted for salami picante with buffalo mozzarella. It had the perfect spices but not hot. They are freshly made and neapolitan style pizzas where they use san Marzano tomato sauce. Potato Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce and their risotto of the season (I chose with mushrooms) – You will not find elsewhere. Artisan pastas are their signature and perhaps one of the most authentic in town as well.

Menu is designed in such a way that even you can even enjoy in solitude! Being at Sorrento and not eating risotto doesn’t make sense. I ordered risotto of the season; they have used five kinds of mushroom, perfect al-dante.

Moving to mains and on chef’s recommendation I ordered black cod lardo wrapped with olio negra, nuts and roasted forest mushroom. If you ask me honestly I must say that this was one of the best black cod, I have had for very long time.

We finished our meal with new age de-constructed tiramisu. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I am not dessert fan.

Sorrento is for sure going to set a new benchmark for Italian fine(Fun) dine in Delhi.

#MFM Recommends – Potato Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce, their handmade pizzas and ofcourse the Black Cod( one of the best in town).
