Gin and Tonic are going to be the next big thing this year” says Suveer Sodhi, the young, enthusiastic F&B Director of Shangri-La’s – Eros Hotel, New delhi when we were at the Al-Fresco area of their newly opened trio restaurant and bar. Sorrento – the Italian, Grappa – the modern bar and Shang Palace – the new Chinese in town makes Shangri-La’s -Eros Hotel New Delhi all the more mystical, harmonious and yet exciting!
If you close your eyes while sitting at the Al-Fresco area of Shangril-La, you would get the feel of being near to a water fall – That’s how the surroundings are. One of the best open area in any of the five stars in Delhi. I was here to review their Italian restaurant Sorrento and Grappa(The bar).
The story of Cicchetti ( The Menu of Grappa) , which means “to start” begins with the old fiat car where the contraption of the same name used to start the car, but in food terms , it simply means those appetizers and small plates with which you begin your meal.
I always follow one simple rule whenever I go for review – follow the recommendations of chef/F&B People. Here too, while sitting with Suveer, I did the same. He explained the concept of Grappa, a casual friendly bar with absolutely mesmerizing outdoor. We started with Negroni on his recommendation. Negroni is an Italian cocktail made of gin and vermouth instead of soda .It is one of the most popular cocktails around the world. International mixologist Mario Gonzalez Cabildo has done a fantastic job here along with our indian mixologists Gaurav Dhyani( Ex Blue Bar) and Umang Srivastava. I will suggest you to try their Brazil negroni (cachaça, Campari, peach liqueur and orange bitter).
Next was gin and tonic – And I would love to repeat this endlessly! Pick up your favourite gin from the list and pick your tonic along with garnish and vola your gin and tonic is ready to go. I would recommend you to try this with their bruschetta.
Their whisky sours range is absolute a delight and a must try. Indian Sour (walnut infused bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and passion fruit) and Pisco Sour (pisco, lemon juice, simple syrup, pasteurised egg whites and angostura) are my picks from their classic sour range and these sour you can try with their fritto.
The menu of Grappa is very extensive and designed very effectively. This place has very innovative cocktails, some great sours and ofcourse their excellent negronis – all of which makes it very enticing. Grappa can also be considered as pre-dinner bar where you can enjoy excellent concoction before hitting Sorrento or Chang Palace for dinner.
