“Facciamoci un aperitivo“ (Let’s have an aperitivo) is something you would often hear in Italy. It’s a casual way to meet up with friends and a way to socialize over a few drinks and snacks before dinner. Literally, Aperitivo is a pre-meal drink to stimulate appetite, but it has come to signify the ritual of going out for a drink. Slowly the culture of having drinks at a bar after office hours before going home, or moving to another place for dinner, is developing in Delhi.
Caffe Tonino is the only dedicated Italian restaurant in Connaught Place. Coming from Tonino flagship you can expect spectacular Italian food that’s truly authentic and will please your senses. Their homemade pastas and wood fired pizzas take the cake. In the evening hours they have on offer an exclusive range of cocktails, while the snacks are on the house.
I tried their cocktail ‘The Innovation’ which consists of Sweet Vermouth and Sparkling Wine which was really good as this combination is marriage made in heaven.
In the Entrée I really liked Gamberi Piastra which was basically marinated prawns tossed with garlic & paprika powder and Crostini al Formaggi Piccante which was basically a garlic crostini topped with green chilly, cheese and gratinated to perfection. There are quite a few snacks on offer out of which you can order five (one piece each) along with each cocktail.
Their thin crust pizzas are quite popular but the Homemade tortelloni pasta stuffed with spinach & ricotta was simply fantastic. Its creamy saffron sauce blended with herb oil did wonders. Their Tiramisu is another popular dish on the menu and was probably the best I’ve had in Delhi. I loved their panna cotta too as it was soft, moist and really flavourful being a low gelatin version. After Aperitivo I surely woudn’t mind having dinner here too.
