The launch of a new hotel in Pune always excites me. Add to that the fact that it belongs to the Taj group and expectations rise even further. Buzz, the all day diner at The Gateway Hotel Hinjawadi Pune lives upto its mark. Spacious and elegant, the ambience is a welcome change from over the top hotel decor. Food is good, honest and delicious.
Interestingly they have a whole Active Foods Menu which emphasizes low GI ingredients that focus on unpolished and unprocessed whole grains, vegetables and legumes which help with weight management. Fruits and micro grains that are rich in antioxidants all blend deliciously to make you feel healthy and energized thankfully without compromising on taste.
Chef Kaushik Misra, Executive Chef has an interesting signature breakfast dish which is part of the Active Foods Menu and is known as the Gateway Dosa. It incorporates 9 whole grains including oats, barley and unpolished rice. It has a yummy stuffing of potatoes and capsicum.
For the Salad start off with the Watermelon Carpaccio with goat cheese, vanilla vinaigrette and arugula honey salad. Perfectly shaved sweet watermelon slices offset by creamy goat cheese, refreshing tanginess of the orange jest and peppery arugula really makes for a winning combination.
Next try the Double Boiled Chicken Consommé with pearl barley and mushroom croustade. It is the kind of hearty nourishing soup one craves for. Another star of the Active Foods Menu has to be the Multigrain Khichdi comprising of everything that is good for you including broccoli- it was delicious and earthy.
Buzz just doesn’t have an Active Foods Menu, they even have International and Oriental dishes like Braised Lamb Shanks, Nasi Goreng or the fabulous tasting and equally good looking Melanzane alla parmigiana which was sensational.
They even have a regional cuisine menu highlighting Varhadi cuisine- something I have not tasted before. To keep it authentic, homemakers prepare the dishes using traditional masalas and fresh ingredients. Each dish whether the Masala Bhat, Matkichi Usal or the Pudachi Wadi were divine and tasted like good spicy home cooked food that nourishes the body, mind and soul.
Dessert featured an awesome dark chocolate combo which comprised of a rich Walnut Brownie, a sinful Dark Chocolate Mousse and Chocolate Ice Cream. The other must try option is the Orange Crème Brulee with biscotti and orange compote. The crack of caramalised sugar on the brulee was music to my ears. The biscotti was wafer thin and super crispy.
