Let me confess something before I start writing about my experience which bowled me over. I do not have a great aesthetic sense; however I appreciate and have an eye for the gallons of diligence that is behind each art fair or exhibition. I make a point not to miss it.
In January one of the world largest and biggest contemporary art fair happened at NSIC ground at Okhla and inspite of being unwell, I ensured that I visit the place. I was invited by Le Meridian where they had organize “Barista Meets Artista” at the India Art Fair 2015. It was a very innovative event where we experienced a unique and interactive coffee and art performance by LM 100 member Esther Maasdam – The Global Latte artist along with visual artist -Sohan Jakhar. I was amazed to see Esther’s creativity, where she used Sohan Jakhar’s design as coffee foam. It was mesmerizing to see how beautifully she makes some exceptionally good designs on coffee. While Esther was busy in designing on each of the coffee mugs, Sohan was printing design from coffee with the help of the wooden block. It took almost half an hour for Esther to design all the latte art.
Sohan’s works represents the true Indian spirit of globalization. He was born in 1978 in Sikar, Rajasthan, did his Master’s in painting from Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur, and now works and lives in Jaipur. Sohan’s paintings majorly have been exhibited in international art galleries.
A Dutch born barista and renowned latte artist, Esther Maasdam began her coffee career in 2005 when she became a barista for MobiCcino, a Dutch coffee company. She soon developed a love for the craft and spent the next several years perfecting her skills and attained her SCAE Barista level 1 and 2 certifications. Her passion for coffee brought her to London where she taught coffee courses at a local roaster and studied Roasting, Milk Chemistry and Brew Chemistry at the London School of Coffee
After the event I took a round of the art fair and saw some of the magnificent designs presented by artists. I was totally in awe of their creativity. It was indeed good to see, lot of big food joints being present at the festival – Guppi by Ai, Monkey bar and la bodega.
All in all I can say that it was one of the well-organized fair which that I have had attended in last couple of years. I would definitely love to visit again, whenever we have the next exhibition!
