Cantonese live kitchen

 Sunday brunches are an increasingly popular weekend activity in the capital. Recently opened JW Marriott at the Aerocity has provided the Delhi foodies another tasty option for their lazy Sunday afternoons.

 K3 derives it’s name simply from the fact that there are three live kitchens in the restaurant, Cantonese, Tuscan and Indian. Executive chef of the hotel, Girish Krishnan graciously gave us a tour of the whole area.

Most of the Sunday brunches has a wide variety of dishes to offer, but seldom do we see three separate live counters offering a large variety of their respective entrès, starters and main courses. It’s also notable how specific cuisines are chosen. Indian cuisine like for example covers everything from Kashmiri to chettinad. The same goes for Italian cuisine, which covers a wide range. The Indian kitchen has the traditional Delhi cuisine.
 A separate outdoor area is set up that serves chaat, kebabs, grilled vegetables and meat, fresh fish, panini and sandwiches station, and radish cake station. All the sea food is flown in fresh from kochi the same day.
The pan fried fish that we tried was exquisite. The salad counter is elaborate with oysters being a Sunday speciality. All the food that is laid out on the counters, is plated up in small portions, which is good because this will keep the preparation fresh, but it might be a problem if large number of people are dining together.
The menu prepared for the brunch is extremely elaborate and it is overwhelming to see so many options.
The dessert counter is one of the most elaborate that I have ever seen, and offers everything from traditional mithai to creeps and waffles. Lots of cakes and pastries to choose from, and a whole bunch of home made gelato. One thing worth mentioning for the vegetarians is that the vegetarian kitchen is a completely different set up, and all preparations are done separately. The overall experience at K3 for me was very satisfying. Beautifully designed area with plush interiors with a light modern theme adds to the whole affair.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the service is impeccable. I couldn’t possibly have everything on the menu, but whatever I tried was upto the standards. The pan fried fish, grilled prawns and non veg dim sums deserve a shout out. And apart from all this, the highlight of the day for me was the smoked martini that I had on chef’s recommendation. My pineapple martini was infused with maple wood smoke and the result was, well for the lack of any other word, smoky. You could taste the smokiness in the martini and was wonderful.
 This is a must try for everyone, either at this place or anywhere else you can get yours hands on it. The one I am going to try next is any scotch based cocktail smoked with Apple wood. Something to look forward to for my next visit, apart from the delicious food of course.
